JANGAN BAKAR AKAR: Storytelling magic by PUSAKA (Art in the Park) 25-26 Oct 8.30pm

At the open field next to the Boat House, Taman Tasik Perdana (Lake Gardens near Bird Park, Parliment House), KL.

Free entry!

You have not experienced storytelling until you have witnessed the charm of Awang Batil and his many faces and instruments, the mesmerising pull of the Tarik Selampit and its lone rebab, the epic battle of the Wayang Kulit and its many cheeky characters. Brought to you by PUSAKA, the organisation dedicated to preserving traditional arts of Malaysia, these acts represent the best of their art, some of whom are also the last of their kinds. Experience the communal spirit of these timeless stories in the park and help keep the ember of their flames alive.

Sponsored by DBKL and Think City, this programme is a collaboration between Pusaka and Art In The Park, the first public art festival in the oldest and largest park in the city, running from Fri 17 Oct to Sun 2 Nov. A few Malaysian and regional artists have been invited to create sculptures and art installation in the park. As a collaboration between KL City Hall and Cult Sdn Bhd, Art in the Park presents a pioneer effort to engage the public with creativity in Kuala Lumpur and offers a unique way of presenting art to the public outside the museums and galleries.

Pusaka is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to supporting the viability of traditional Malaysian art forms such as Wayang Kulit, Mak Yong, Main Puteri, Manora and Kuda Kepang. Pusaka works closely with cultural practitioners to organise performances and youth training projects, as well as to document cultural traditions. While ensuring the viability and independence of cultural traditions at the community level, Pusaka strives to engage a wider audience in understanding and appreciating these traditions -- locally, nationally and internationally.
